You already know that our martial arts classes at Level Up can help you get in shape. But one question that I get a lot – and it most frequently comes from women – is this:
If I study martial arts, will I develop bulky muscles?
It’s a good question – an important one. While some people might want bulky muscles, many people don’t. They want toned, lean bodies, but they don’t want to look like body builders.
I’ve got good news for you. The moves you’ll learn in martial arts class aren’t designed to bulk up your muscles. To do that, you need to lift weights and repeatedly tear the muscles. That’s not the kind of workout you’ll get if you study with us.
Martial arts classes don’t include weightlifting. What they do teach you is how to leverage your body weight against an opponent. That means that you’ll apply some resistance to your muscles. That will help to tone them and give your body a nice shape – but it won’t make you look like Popeye or Arnold Schwarzenegger.
What you’ll get instead is smooth, toned arms; strong legs; beautiful shoulders; and flat abs. Your body will look great and you’ll be lean and toned all over. It’s a full-body workout that’s designed to burn fat, tone muscles, and make you look fantastic.
So, stop worrying about bulky muscles, and start thinking about how wonderful you’ll look and feel when you shed excess pounds and develop the kind of shapely muscles that will make you the envy of your friends!
